Carers Support Group
We value the “whole of family” approach to ensure that you, as the Carer, support your loved one, but also gain the support yourself. Carers support is now available at The Central Coast Clinic.
Having a family member or friend in hospital can be a stressful time. At Brisbane Waters Private Hospital we recognise this can be a challenging time for those involved in their loved ones care and acknowledge that you play a vital role when the patient is admitted, but also on an ongoing basis after they are discharged.
At Brisbane Waters Private Hospital we strive to provide not only a high level of quality care to our patients during their stay, but also to achieve the gold standard in supporting their Carer during this time also. Often the Carer’s focus is on their loved one, at the expense of caring for themselves. We value the “whole of family” approach to ensure that you, as the Carer, support your loved one, but also gain the support yourself.
As such Brisbane Waters Private Hospital has partnered with Central Coast Association of Relatives and Friends of the Mentally Ill ( ARAFMI), to create a program for Carers of our patients.
How can I access the Brisbane Waters Private Hospital Carer Program?
Carer support is now available at Brisbane Waters Private Hospital for Carers. Central Coast ARAFMI will be providing assistance and counselling to Carers that have a family member admitted to the clinic. To request assistance please speak with our reception staff or with the nursing staff in the Central Coast Clinic, who will provide you with information on the Carers Support group.
There are no costs associated with accessing carer support.
Central Coast ARAFMI will be attending the Hospital on a weekly basis to provide support face to face and will be available over the phone for those with immediate needs. Central Coast ARAFMI are also happy to continue this assistance to the whole family upon the patients discharge also. Central Coast ARAFMI recognises that families and Carers may be confronted with a broad range of difficulties and challenges when caring for a person with a mental illness. The support offered is in a non-judgemental, caring environment enriched by the personal experiences and expertise of ARAFMI members.
Carers may request a family case conference with the patient’s Psychiatrist, providing the patient has provided consent for this.
