What is Addiction?
Substance use and addictive behaviours exist on a scale from abstinence to low-level or occasional use, all the way through to use that constitutes a diagnosable disorder. Addictive disorders may develop suddenly or over an extended time. They may develop in people who are otherwise well or may occur as a consequence of a range of underlying vulnerabilities.
People sometimes struggle to identify with having, or being at risk of, an addiction disorder. Other people might be newly coming to terms with the problematic nature of their addictive behaviour.
