Substance Use, Addiction and De-Prescribing Antidepressants
Healthe Care Psychiatrists deliver education for northern Sydney doctors and psychologists.
Brisbane Waters Private Hospital recently hosted a successful education and networking evening focused on Substance Use, Addictions, and the crucial topic of de-prescribing antidepressants. The event, held at Avondale Golf Club in Pymble, brought together General Practitioners and Psychologists from across northern Sydney and the Central Coast, offering an invaluable opportunity for learning and collaboration.
The evening featured presentations by guest speakers from various Healthe Care hospitals including Professor John Saunders, Professor in Addictions Medicine and renowned expert in the field of substance use treatment, and Dr Chris Wellard, General Adult Psychiatrist, who has extensive experience in mental health care. The speakers shared their expertise on addressing substance use and addictions, with a particular emphasis on the complexities and considerations involved in the process of de-prescribing antidepressants.
In addition to the presentations, the event also provided an opportunity for attendees to network and engage with the hospital’s team of psychiatrists and our mental health leadership team, who were in attendance to answer questions, share insights, and discuss the services offered at Brisbane Waters Private including immediate admission for inpatients and outpatient day programs.
The event was a resounding success, with attendees praising the quality of the presentations and the opportunity for meaningful discussions. The feedback from all participants was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the value of GP educational forums in promoting collaboration and improving patient outcomes.
Looking ahead, Brisbane Waters Private Hospital will continue to host more GP education events, further strengthening our commitment to fostering professional development and providing support to local healthcare providers and the community.
